Even though the calendar says Spring doesn't start here for another week or so, 01 September is feted as "Spring Day" across South Africa as the unofficial end of Winter, and a hopeful start to nicer weather (although their winter weather was pretty perfect to me...)

But, the flowers and the trees agree with the 01 September date, and a myriad of plants and blooms have blossomed, some familiar, others new, and so here are just a few of my favorite pictures from Spring here in South Africa.  Many of the pictures are from Pretoria, but some are from Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, just to the west of Johannesburg.  Nestled along a ridge of the Magaliesburg mountains, the gardens feature Witpoortjie Falls, the source of the Crocodile River.
