One week left...

Life is a whirlwind at the moment, with many last minute preparations, and catching up with friends before the big trek begins in just a week.  I've been rather productive most every day, and fortunately, all of my official travel plans cleared yesterday, so I'm authorized to get on the plane and head south.  Lots of chores this weekend to get the house ready and try to get packed.  My sister and her kids arrive Wednesday, so it would be great to be ready to go before they arrive so I can relax and enjoy a quick visit before Departure Day.


After a quick hop to Atlanta, I will gird myself for the King of All Flights:  Atlanta to Johannesburg.  It's the longest flight any American-based airline makes on the planet, at just under 8,500 miles in a mere 15+ hours.  Because the flight crosses the Equator, the shortest route is an S-shaped curve when displayed in two dimensions, nearly bisecting the ocean and barely flying over land at all.  Now if only half the passengers on the plane would not show up, so I can stretch out...
